This communication contains important information regarding testing for Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). 

Please know that we at HNL Lab Medicine are focused on the health and safety of our employees, providers, and patients. We are monitoring the situation closely and will be updating information as necessary. 

In an effort to minimize the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and to protect our patients, visitors, and staff from increased risk of exposure, we ask that all patients, family members, and/or visitors, refrain from entering any HNL Lab Medicine facility if: 

  • You have recently returned from travel outside of the U.S. 

  • You have been exposed to COVID-19 

  • Are experiencing flu-like symptoms including:
    • coughing
    • sneezing
    • congestion
    • fever

Health Network Laboratories (HNL Lab Medicine) is adding additional options for patients 
who need to get their blood drawn during the COVID-19 pandemic.

We are offering the following options:

Dedicated Service Hour for Vulnerable Patients 
The first business hour at all Patient Center locations will be dedicated to patients over the age of 60 and those with underlying health concerns. These patients are the most vulnerable to potential adverse outcomes if infected by the COVID-19 virus.

Glucose Tolerance Testing and Social Distancing 

Patients have the option to wait in their vehicle if other patients are waiting for testing or if you need a Glucose Tolerance Test.
How does this option work?

  1. Register at the Kiosk 
  2. Use the sign-in sheet to enter your name and a phone number 
  3. Wait for the phlebotomist to call you.


Please go to HNL.com/locations to find a Patient Center closest to you and up to date hours.

Patients who are concerned that they or a family member are exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 should immediately contact their healthcare provider to determine their next steps https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/about/symptoms.html 

Individuals seeking testing for COVID-19 should not visit any HNL Lab Medicine Patient Center to request a test

Tests must be ordered by a healthcare provider. Your healthcare provider or a designated COVID-19 regional testing site must collect the specimen which can be sent to HNL Lab Medicine for processing. 

Please check our Website/Facebook daily for patient center hours of operations and temporary closures. The first hour of operation will be dedicated to patients 60 or older and those who have severe underlying medical conditions.

What is Coronavirus Disease 2019? 
Coronavirus Disease 2019 or COVID-19 (formally known as 2019-nCoV) is the name for the respiratory syndrome caused by infection with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2).

Can I send my patient’s sample to HNL Lab Medicine? 
HNL Lab Medicine is collaborating with other laboratories and can accept COVID-19 specimens collected by a healthcare provider for processing.

How fast will doctors get results back?
We expect results to be available 3-4 days from the time of specimen pickup; however, timing may be impacted by high demand.
 
What are the signs and symptoms of the COVID-19? 
The symptoms can include a cough, possibly with a fever and shortness of breath. There are some early reports of non-respiratory symptoms, such as nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea. Most individuals recover within a few days. However, some individual’s, especially the elderly or people who have a weakened immune system, may develop a more serious infection, such as bronchitis or pneumonia.

Are masks or other personal protective equipment available for visitors to HNL Lab Medicine Patient Centers? 
Current guidance does not support the general use of masks or other personal protective equipment by the public. Patients who meet established criteria will be offered a face mask to help minimize the risk of spreading airborne diseases.

The best methods to limit the risk of exposure or spreading the virus are everyday preventative actions as outlined here by the CDC: https://www.cdc.gov/flu/prevent/actions-prevent-flu.htm. Hand sanitizer is available at all of our locations, and we encourage its use by all visitors.
